The Building Systems Maintenance (BSM) operating budget is not funded to perform major building systems maintenance such as entire roof replacements, HVAC system renovations, or electrical system upgrades.
This work (deferred maintenance) is placed on the Universities deferred maintenance request list. Request for funds from the State LB309 Deferred Maintenance Task Force are made annually. On occasion the task force visits various campus sites to evaluate the severity of the need.
As funds are available, the task force funds various remedial projects to correct major building deficiencies. The task force focuses primarily on projects high on the hierarchy that either remedy a life safety concern (fire alarm upgrade) or preserve the integrity of the building (roof renovations).
At any point in time, the campus deferred maintenance backlog is estimated to be in excess of $200,000,000.
