Antelope Valley Project Work Update 7/28/05
- Y Street & Bridge, 17th St. - Miscellaneous work remains with landscaping. Prior to State Fair (August 26), north-bound 17th Street at the south side of Holdrege will be reconfigured/painted to three north-bound lanes - left turn only, straight only, and straight & right turn.
- Big T project - 14th St Railroad Crossing - A sidewalk has been installed on the west side of 14th Street at the railroad crossing. Pedestrians are urged to use the west crosswalk to avoid construction traffic on the east side of 14th Street. South leg of the Big T - The construction of the south leg of the Big T has started. This will tie the elevated intersection at the railroad tracks to the "X" Street Bridge (new connector road). A new water channel is also being built on the east side of the road way. This road will be open by the end of 2006. The elevated intersection connecting the west and north legs will be open June 2006. North/West leg of the Big T - The new south (east-bound) lanes of Holdrege Street should be open for traffic by mid-August. At that time, traffic will switch to these lanes and the new north side lanes will be constructed. All four lanes (from Stadium Drive to 14th Street) should be complete in October/November. The new east-bound road will have right-in, right-out entrances to the Foreburger and 14th & Avery parking lots. A new side walk has been installed on the south side of Holdrege Street between Stadium Drive and 14th Street. This walk will open in mid-August when the traffic switch is made to the east-bound lanes. The Foreburger parking lot is temporarily closed during roadwork, work on the lot, and repaving. It will re-open mid-August. The 14th & Avery parking lot north side is complete. Because of the new parking garage construction, the lot cannot be accessed from 14th Street. To park in the 14th & Avery surface lot, cars must either use Avery Avenue or the new Holdrege Street entrance (when it opens in mid-August). The north-side Harper-Schramm-Smith parking lot is complete and will be striped/painted August 4. The new parking lot on the east end of the HSS complex will be complete early August as well. Next week, the west entrance (off 14th Street) will be widened. Installation of the retaining walls for the north and west legs of the elevated roadway continues. The 14th Street - Bessie Street detour will go away in mid-late August and traffic will then be able to remain on 14th Street without the detour. In October, a new pedestrian bridge over the Antelope Creek channel will be installed north of the railroad tracks (south of the Devaney Center). This bridge will not open until construction of the north leg of the Big T has reached a point where it is safe for pedestrians (late this year or early next year).
- Vine Street Construction- Work on Vine Street continues. New drives have been installed on the south end of the Abel-Sandoz parking lot. Pedestrian walkways are open on the north side of Vine. All four lanes of Vine between 17th & 27th Streets will be open by the end of August. The construction includes a road on the east side of the Beadle Center from Vine Street that will give access to the lots on the east side of Beadle. Because of traffic restrictions, most side street access / turns in the construction area along Vine Street are currently right-in, right-out only with no left turns.
